Dr Mike du Toit completed his Haematology training at UCT/GSH as a senior specialist and in 1995 joined Prof Peter Jacobs to found the first private Haematology practice in Cape Town. In 1998 they moved to the current rooms at Mediclinic Constantiaberg as the original “Haem Team” which has now been joined by Dr Danie Kotze.
He was a founding member of the SA Oncology Consortium (SAOC) which still plays an important part in the self-regulation of oncology practice in the private sector in South Africa. He was the first Haematology board member of the SAOC and continues to play an active part in its affairs. He is a past chairman of the PAPOS psycho-oncology group which fostered a psycho-oncology approach to Cancer in meetings as far afield as Uganda and Kenya between 1990 and 2004. He is an ongoing member of the American and European Haematology societies and locally remains involved with St Luke’s Hospice in Cape Town and is a director of the Sunflower fund.
Dr du Toit is involved with all aspects of clinical Haematology including Haemophilia and oncology management of Leukaemias, Lymphomas, Myelomas and Bone Marrow transplantation for haematological and other disorders. The clinic has facilities to treat patients from anywhere in RSA or elsewhere in Africa and all treatment is offered at medical aid rates as far as possible.
