Dr. Hans Jacobs is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee surgery. This includes arthroplasty or replacement of the hip and knee as well as arthroscopic reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Jacobs attended the University of Stellenbosch where he graduated in 2007 with a MBChB. He then attended the University of Pretoria for his orthopaedic surgery specialist training and qualified in 2016 with a MMed from the University of Pretoria and FC Orth from the College of Medicine of South Africa. In 2017 he went to Sydney, Australia to do a fellowship in hip and knee reconstructive surgery.
He is currently a senior lecturer at the University of Pretoria and a consultant in Arthroplasty and Sports Medicine at Steve Biko Academic Hospital and has a private practice at the Life Faerie Glen Hospital – Spinal and Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence.
Dr. Jacobs specializes amongst other in; minimally invasive hip replacements through the anterior approach (AMIS), kinematically aligned total knee replacements (KA TKR or KATKA) as well as mobile bearing (Oxford) unicompartmental knee replacements. Conservative management of joint pain and joint preservation surgery, is also a part of orthopaedics he is passionate about. He firmly believes joint replacement surgery should only be done when all other avenues have been exhausted.
Teaching students, orthopaedic registrars and young orthopaedic surgeons is also part of his orthopaedic journey.
