How Getadoc works, and the standards behind it.
Getadoc is a directory of registered healthcare practitioners in South Africa, with patient reviews and a health library reviewed by registered clinicians. This page explains how listings, verification, our editorial standards and reviews work.

What we do
Find care by specialty and place
Getadoc helps you find a healthcare practitioner by specialty, condition, city and suburb — with profiles, patient reviews and contact details.
Every listing brings together the information a patient needs to make contact: the practitioner’s specialty, the suburb and city they practise in, and how to reach them.
Practitioners can claim their profile to keep these details current. Whether or not a profile is claimed, its listing information stays open for patients to browse.
Listings and verification
From listed to verified
Listings start from public practitioner information. Two further steps — claiming and verification — add accuracy and a registration check.

Listed
A practitioner is listed with their specialty and practice location, so patients can find them by area.

Claimed
The practitioner creates an account and claims their profile, then keeps their contact details, practice hours and services up to date.

Verified
We check the practitioner’s registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Confirmed registrations show a verified badge.
Health library
Written for education, reviewed by clinicians
Articles and condition guides in our health library are for general education and are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
Articles reviewed by a clinician show the name of the registered practitioner who reviewed them and the date they were last reviewed, along with the sources they draw on.
New articles are reviewed before they are published. Drafts prepared with AI assistance are never published automatically — a named medical reviewer approves an article before it goes live.
Reviews
Independent of the practitioners they describe
Reviews are submitted by patients and moderated by Getadoc, not by the practitioners being reviewed.
Practitioners cannot write, edit or remove reviews of their own practice. Getadoc collects and moderates reviews to keep them impartial and to remove content that breaks our guidelines.
This independence is the reason review ratings can appear on a profile: the practitioner does not control them, so patients see the same reviews everyone else does.
