Dr Pierre De Waal

Dr Pierre De Waal is a qualified general practitioner with extensive experience in trauma and emergency medicine, general practice and aesthetic medicine. He maintains a broad scope of practice, offering a comprehensive range of medical services to the community. His academic journey began in the United States at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, with a particular interest in molecular biology. Following his graduation, he returned to South Africa and pursued a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at Stellenbosch University. He completed his housemanship at Tygerberg Academic Hospital and fulfilled his community service in the Department of Trauma and Emergency Medicine at Helderberg Hospital. Dedicated to lifelong learning and excellence in patient care, Dr De Waal went on to obtain a Diploma in Primary Emergency Care (DipPEC) from the College of Medicine of South Africa. He also holds current certifications from the American Heart Association in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS/APLS). In addition, he has completed certifications in Basic Trauma and Emergency Surgery (BTES), as well as Basic and Essential Surgical Skills (BESST). Dr De Waal is accredited by the Emergency Medicine Society of South Africa as an Emergency Point-of-Care Ultrasound (ePOCUS) provider. He has also completed training and certification in Emergency Aeromedical Transport & Evacuation (UCT) . Further expanding his skill set, he has received training in advanced medical aesthetics from formidable names in the medical aesthetic community. His prior work experience includes full-time roles in the Trauma and Emergency Medicine Departments at Durbanville Mediclinic, Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital, and Life Kingsbury Hospital. Dr De Waal regularly assists in theatre alongside neurosurgeon Dr Brad Harrington and occasionally assists another Neurosurgeon Dr Iain Walker, as well as orthopaedic surgeon Dr Matt Durrans, at both Cape Gate Mediclinic and Durbanville Mediclinic. He is well-versed in trauma and emergency medicine, general medicine, medical aesthetics, sclerotherapy, geriatric and palliative care, minor surgical procedures, women’s health, men’s health and urology, paediatrics, and intravenous therapy for a variety of conditions.
